CATL Unveils Breakthrough Battery Technologies to Power Next-Gen EV Revolution

Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL), a global leader in battery technology, has announced a sweeping portfolio of innovations aimed at transforming the future of electric mobility. Revealed during its Super Technology Day in Beijing, the company introduced six major advancements spanning battery chemistry, performance, and charging infrastructure.

At the forefront is the third-generation Shenxing Superfast Charging Battery, which delivers unprecedented charging speeds without compromising lifespan. The battery supports up to 15C peak charging, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in under four minutes. Even in extreme cold conditions of –30°C, it can reach near full charge in about nine minutes. CATL attributes this performance to enhanced thermal management and precision control systems that maintain over 90% capacity retention after 1,000 cycles.

The company also unveiled the third-generation Qilin Battery, engineered for premium electric vehicles. With an energy density of 280 Wh/kg, it enables a driving range of up to 1,000 km while reducing weight significantly. The battery enhances vehicle efficiency, safety, and durability, while also improving acceleration and braking performance.

Pushing boundaries further, CATL introduced the Qilin Condensed Battery, incorporating aviation-grade materials into passenger vehicles. Offering a record-breaking 350 Wh/kg energy density, it promises up to 1,500 km range for sedans. The design eliminates liquid electrolytes, reducing fire risks and improving safety, while a titanium alloy casing enhances structural strength.

In the hybrid segment, the second-generation Freevoy Super Hybrid Battery extends pure electric range up to 600 km. By combining lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) materials, it achieves higher energy density without increasing weight. The system also delivers strong performance even at low charge levels, making it suitable for both daily commuting and long-distance travel.

CATL also marked a major milestone with its Naxtra Sodium-ion Battery, signaling the transition from research to large-scale production. Designed to address challenges such as extreme temperatures and resource availability, the battery is expected to enter mass production by the end of 2026.

Complementing these product innovations, CATL introduced an integrated supercharging and battery-swapping network. This unified infrastructure combines home charging, public fast charging, and battery swapping into a single ecosystem. The company plans to deploy 4,000 such stations across nearly 190 cities by the end of 2026, significantly expanding EV accessibility and convenience.

Speaking at the event, CATL leadership emphasized the importance of multi-chemistry development, highlighting that no single battery technology can meet all mobility needs. Instead, a coordinated approach leveraging different materials and systems will define the next phase of energy innovation.

With these advancements, CATL is positioning itself at the center of a rapidly evolving electric vehicle landscape, aiming to deliver faster charging, longer range, and safer energy solutions across diverse applications.
