Tata Motors Limited has achieved a major milestone in innovation, filing a record 144 patent applications in the financial year 2025–26—the highest ever by its commercial vehicles division in a single year.
The surge in patent activity reflects the company’s strategic focus on advancing vehicle safety, reliability, cost efficiency, and passenger comfort. It also underscores Tata Motors’ push toward future-ready mobility solutions, including electric vehicles and hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine technologies.
In addition to patent filings, the company submitted 21 design applications and 35 copyright applications during the year. It also secured 15 patent grants, taking its cumulative tally of granted patents to over 650.
The achievement highlights Tata Motors’ growing emphasis on intellectual property development as a core driver of innovation and competitiveness in the commercial vehicle segment. The company continues to invest in cutting-edge technologies and engineering capabilities to strengthen its market leadership.
Commenting on the development, Aniruddha Kulkarni, Vice President and Head of Engineering at Tata Motors, said the record filings demonstrate the technical excellence and creativity of the company’s engineering teams. He added that innovation remains central to Tata Motors’ vision of becoming a global benchmark in commercial mobility.

The latest milestone comes amid broader structural changes within the company. Following a scheme approved by the National Company Law Tribunal, TML Commercial Vehicles Limited was officially renamed Tata Motors Limited in October 2025, consolidating its corporate identity.
