Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. reported a solid start to FY27 for its commercial vehicle operations, with its Trucks & Buses business recording 3,011 vehicle sales in April 2026, marking an 11% year-on-year increase.

The performance includes sales from both the Mahindra Trucks & Buses Division (MTBD) and SML Mahindra Limited.

According to the company, the cargo vehicle segment contributed 1,159 units, up 8% from the same period last year, while passenger vehicle sales rose 14% to 1,852 units.

Within the Mahindra Trucks & Buses Division, total April sales stood at 1,270 units, reflecting a 6% increase year-on-year. Cargo vehicle sales in the division rose 9% to 749 units, while passenger vehicle volumes increased 3% to 521 units.

Meanwhile, SML Mahindra delivered a stronger performance with 1,741 units sold, up 15% compared to April 2025. The company’s passenger vehicle category led growth, rising 19% to 1,331 units, while cargo vehicle sales increased 5% to 410 units.

Vinod Sahay said the commercial vehicle industry saw some moderation in April due to the transition into the new fiscal year, along with inflationary pressures and geopolitical uncertainties.

He added that the company continues to monitor supply chain risks and elevated input costs, which may influence demand trends in the coming months.

Industry analysts noted that despite macroeconomic challenges, Mahindra’s double-digit growth reflects resilient demand in the passenger transport and cargo movement sectors. Stronger performance from SML Mahindra also signals improving momentum in the bus and institutional transport segment.

Mahindra Group, founded in 1945, operates in more than 100 countries and holds leadership positions across automotive, farm equipment, technology, and financial services.

The April sales numbers reinforce Mahindra’s expanding presence in India’s commercial vehicle market as infrastructure activity, logistics demand, and public mobility continue to support sector growth.
