Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. unveiled two new New Energy Vehicle (NEV) SUV concepts at Auto China 2026, reinforcing China’s role as a key market and global innovation hub in its long-term growth strategy.

President and CEO Ivan Espinosa said China is central to Nissan’s vision, not only as a competitive domestic market but also as a source of innovation for global products. He emphasized that advanced technologies must deliver clear benefits, making mobility safer, more intuitive, and accessible.

The two concept vehicles mark their global debut:

  • Urban SUV PHEV Concept: Targeted at younger Chinese buyers, it combines modern design with efficient plug-in hybrid technology suited for daily city driving. Its styling reflects Nissan’s future SUV direction.
  • Terrano PHEV Concept: Reviving a well-known nameplate, this model blends off-road capability with plug-in hybrid performance, catering to both adventure and urban use.

Production versions of both vehicles are expected within a year. Nissan also plans to launch three additional NEV models in China during the same period, accelerating its electrification strategy.

Under its vision, “Mobility Intelligence for Everyday Life,” Nissan identifies China as one of its three core markets, alongside Japan and the United States. The country serves a dual role: a strong domestic market and a global export and innovation base.

Since 2025, Nissan has expanded its NEV lineup in China with models such as the N7, Frontier Pro PHEV, N6, and NX8. These vehicles combine global standards with local technological innovation and have gained positive market response.

Several models are also planned for export. The N7 will be shipped to Latin America and ASEAN markets, while the Frontier Pro PHEV is set for Latin America, ASEAN, and the Middle East. Future exports will include the NX8 and the production version of the Terrano PHEV.

Nissan aims to achieve one million annual vehicle sales in China by fiscal year 2030, with exports playing a key role in reaching this target.
