Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainability and carbon neutrality, unveiling significant progress across its operations and mobility initiatives on Earth Day 2026.

Aligned with Toyota Motor Corporation’s ambitious Environmental Challenge 2050, TKM is advancing a comprehensive sustainability strategy spanning clean mobility, green manufacturing, renewable energy adoption, water conservation, circular economy practices, and biodiversity protection. The company is targeting carbon-neutral manufacturing operations in India by 2035.

A key highlight of TKM’s progress is its multi-pathway approach to electrification. Recognizing India’s diverse energy ecosystem, the company is investing in multiple clean mobility solutions, including pilot projects for Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs) and Electrified Flex-Fuel Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FFV SHEVs). These initiatives aim to support India’s energy independence while reducing lifecycle emissions.

In manufacturing, TKM has achieved a major milestone by running its facilities on 100% renewable grid electricity for five consecutive years, effectively eliminating Scope 2 emissions. The company has also reduced logistics emissions by increasing rail transport usage and piloting electric trucks for shorter distances, contributing to an annual reduction of nearly 950 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent.

Water conservation remains a central focus, with 89% of TKM’s water needs met through rainwater harvesting and recycling. Through its “4R” strategy—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Recharge—the company is progressing toward water positivity while ensuring efficient resource management.

Further strengthening its sustainability credentials, TKM has achieved over 96% waste recycling and maintains a zero waste-to-landfill status across its plants. Its efforts extend to biodiversity conservation through initiatives like the Toyota Green Wave Project, which has created a thriving ecosystem with over 650 plant species and 468 animal species within its premises.

The company is also driving awareness through its 25-acre Ecozone learning centre, engaging thousands of students and promoting environmental education among future generations.

Speaking on the occasion, B. Padmanabha, Executive Vice President, Manufacturing at TKM, emphasized that sustainability is deeply embedded in the company’s operations. He noted that the use of renewable energy since 2021 demonstrates how industrial growth can align with environmental responsibility.
