Ola Electric has launched the S1Z electric scooter range, becoming the first scooter range in India to bring the company’s indigenously developed Bharat Cell LFP battery technology to the mass market.
The S1Z is built around Ola Electric’s 46 series LFP cell platform, developed at its Battery Innovation Centre and manufactured at the company’s Ola Gigafactory. The company said the move is aimed at bringing locally developed battery technology to India’s value-focused EV segment while reducing battery costs.
The S1Z will be available in 3.1 kWh and 5.1 kWh battery variants, priced at an introductory ₹79,999 and ₹99,999 (ex-showroom), respectively. The 3.1 kWh version offers an IDC range of up to 179 km, while the 5.1 kWh variant can deliver up to 301 km.
Ola Electric said the use of its in-house developed and manufactured LFP technology is expected to lower battery costs, which represent one of the largest cost components of an electric vehicle. The company said the technology is designed to provide improved safety and longer battery life while maintaining affordability.
The S1Z will be offered in White, Anthracite, Sky Splash Blue and Matcha Green, with both variants featuring 12-inch wheels. Deliveries of the 3.1 kWh variant are scheduled to begin in December 2026, while deliveries of the 5.1 kWh variant are expected to start in March 2027.
The scooter will run on MoveOS 5 and feature technologies including cruise control, advanced regenerative braking, reverse mode, GPS, over-the-air (OTA) software updates, geo, time and mode fencing, ride statistics and energy insights through the Ola Electric app.
The S1Z also features Easy Park, which is designed to help riders manoeuvre the scooter in tight parking spaces.
According to Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, Ola Electric, the S1Z is intended to bring the company’s indigenous LFP technology to a wider section of Indian consumers. He said the company aims to build India’s EV ecosystem from battery cells through to complete vehicles and expand EV adoption across Indian households.
The S1Z range will also play a role in Ola Electric’s next phase of retail expansion. The company plans to introduce its first dealer-operated stores, supplementing its existing company-owned retail network to expand access to its products across India.
With the S1Z, Ola Electric is combining indigenous battery technology, vertically integrated manufacturing and mass-market pricing as it seeks to expand its presence in India’s electric two-wheeler market.
