Volvo Cars has announced the launch of the all-electric Volvo EX60, its most technologically advanced vehicle to date, featuring Google’s new Gemini AI assistant that allows drivers to interact with the car through natural, human-like conversations.

Scheduled for global unveiling on January 21, 2026, the mid-size electric SUV marks a major step forward in automotive artificial intelligence, connectivity and safety-focused software design. The EX60 becomes the first Volvo model to integrate Gemini, enabling hands-free control of navigation, messages, vehicle functions and complex tasks using multi-turn voice conversations.

Volvo said the new system is designed to reduce driver distraction by minimizing the need to interact with touchscreens, allowing motorists to remain focused on the road.

“The new EX60 is full of human-centric technology designed to enhance your life behind the wheel,” said Anders Bell, Chief Engineering and Technology Officer at Volvo Cars. “It combines our in-house innovations with world-class technology from partners like Google, NVIDIA and Qualcomm.”

At the heart of the EX60 is Volvo’s newly introduced core system called HuginCore, a software-defined architecture that integrates the vehicle’s electrical system, core computer, zone controllers and operating software. Named after a mythical Norse raven symbolizing thought and memory, the system enables continuous over-the-air updates and real-time learning from driving data collected across Volvo’s global fleet.

The EX60 is powered by the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin platform, capable of processing over 250 trillion operations per second, supporting advanced driver assistance, real-time environmental perception and predictive safety features. Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon Cockpit and Auto Connectivity platforms provide high-speed processing and ultra-responsive connectivity, along with four years of complimentary unlimited data for customers.

Volvo said the vehicle continuously improves its driving intelligence by learning from real-world traffic scenarios, accidents and near-miss events, helping the car anticipate hazards and respond more effectively to unpredictable situations.

In addition to its digital capabilities, the EX60 sets new benchmarks in electric performance. According to preliminary figures based on WLTP standards, the SUV offers a driving range of up to 810 kilometres on a single charge in all-wheel-drive configuration and can gain up to 340 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes using a 400kW fast charger.

Future software updates will further enhance Gemini’s role in the vehicle, eventually allowing the AI to interpret data from the car’s cameras to answer questions about the surrounding environment.

Volvo Cars stated that the EX60 reflects its long-term strategy to develop vehicles that improve over time through software, combining sustainability, safety and digital intelligence into a single platform.
