Audi has intensified testing of its upcoming all-electric A2 e-tron ahead of the model’s official debut in fall 2026, signaling the company’s continued push toward an electrified future.

The compact electric vehicle, which will be manufactured at Audi’s headquarters in Ingolstadt, Germany, is positioned as an entry-level premium EV designed to broaden access to electric mobility while strengthening Audi’s expanding electric portfolio.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner first announced the A2 e-tron during the company’s Annual Media Conference, describing the model as a significant milestone in Audi’s long-term electrification strategy.

Currently wrapped in camouflage, the prototype is undergoing extensive validation testing across multiple environments, including freezing Scandinavian conditions, aerodynamic testing in Ingolstadt, and real-world road evaluations in Bavaria.

During winter trials in northern Sweden’s Lapland region, engineers are assessing the A2 e-tron’s battery performance, thermal management, and driving dynamics under extreme cold-weather conditions. Audi said the testing focuses on optimizing the interaction between the electric powertrain, suspension systems, and brake controls to ensure the vehicle delivers the brand’s signature driving experience.

The automaker is also refining the EV’s aerodynamic efficiency using its advanced wind tunnel facilities in Ingolstadt. The A2 e-tron’s distinctive roofline is designed to improve airflow and efficiency, while engineers evaluate noise reduction, thermal stability, and high-speed aerodynamics at wind speeds of up to 300 km/h.

In addition to controlled testing, Audi is conducting road trials in Bavaria’s Altmühl Valley region, where the vehicle is being tested on winding roads, varying surfaces, and steep inclines to evaluate ride comfort, handling, and advanced driver assistance systems in everyday traffic conditions.

The A2 e-tron will become part of Audi’s rapidly expanding EV lineup, following the launch of more than 20 new models across 2024 and 2025. The company says it now offers one of the youngest model portfolios in the premium automotive market, ranging from compact electric vehicles to large luxury models.

Production of the A2 e-tron in Ingolstadt also highlights Audi’s ongoing investment in transforming its European manufacturing operations for the electric era.
