The BMW Group is taking driving experiences to the next level with its groundbreaking BMW M Mixed Reality, a fusion of physical and virtual worlds powered by advanced VR and MR technologies. By turning the vehicle itself into a controller, this immersive innovation allows drivers to engage in a unique 3D interaction with their surroundings while physically driving a BMW M vehicle.

First introduced at the Web Summit in Lisbon in 2022, BMW M Mixed Reality has continued to evolve, and now offers customers an unparalleled digital experience. The latest addition to this technological leap is a multisensory multiplayer mode, where drivers race in a virtual world, competing on the BMW M Rooftop Circuit. Spectators, using devices like the Meta Quest or Apple Vision Pro, can also watch live with avatars, expanding the immersive potential of the platform.

BMW M fans have been able to experience this technology since fall 2023 at the BMW M Driving Experience in Maisach, Germany, and the BMW M Performance Driving School in California. The newly introduced BMW M Mixed Reality Rooftop Circuit has drivers navigate virtual obstacles and collect BMW M coins, all while physically maneuvering the BMW M135 with real-time precision, thanks to advanced GPS positioning and in-vehicle systems.

This revolutionary platform represents BMW’s vision for the future of virtual automotive experiences, blending innovation with driving performance. BMW Group is also exploring further applications for vehicle development and professional training, such as using mixed reality to enhance driver precision on racetracks.

BMW M Mixed Reality will once again be showcased at the Web Summit in Lisbon this year, where fans can look forward to even more developments in the exciting world of mixed reality driving.
