In a collaborative effort to propel sustainable infrastructure forward, Gage Zero LLC (Gage Zero) and Hillwood have unveiled plans to develop Texas’ inaugural public commercial electric vehicle (EV) charging facility. Situated within the expansive 27,000-acre Alliance Texas development, this pioneering project marks a significant milestone in the state’s journey towards electrified transportation solutions.
The initiative, spearheaded by Austin-based Gage Zero and Hillwood, renowned for its progressive approach to development, signifies a bold step towards addressing the evolving landscape of transportation needs while embracing the imperatives of sustainability and resilience.
At the heart of Alliance Texas, a globally recognized logistics hub, the EV fleet charging hub will cater specifically to trucks and last-mile fleets, amplifying accessibility to clean energy solutions within the logistics supply chain. This endeavor underscores Hillwood’s steadfast commitment to future-focused development, harnessing innovative technologies to enhance transportation efficiency and bolster supply chain resiliency.
Russell Laughlin, Executive Vice President of Hillwood, expressed confidence in the project’s potential to redefine the infrastructure landscape. “This groundbreaking initiative exemplifies our unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable infrastructure solutions that prioritize our customers’ needs,” stated Laughlin. “Through the deployment of innovative technologies, we expect to significantly enhance transportation efficiency, particularly in the crucial first and last mile segments of the logistics supply chain.”
Led by Founder and CEO Zeina El-Azzi, the Gage Zero team brings a wealth of experience and expertise in deploying utility-scale clean energy projects. With a combined experience exceeding $10 billion, Gage Zero is poised to develop, own, and operate the Alliance Texas EV charging hub as part of its strategic network of sites across the United States.
El-Azzi underscored the importance of collaboration in driving meaningful change. “Hillwood is exactly the type of collaborator Gage Zero wants to work with to fulfill our mission,” she remarked. “Together, as innovators and leaders in our industries, we can solve the complexity of both land development and electrification for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles in a convenient location for fleet customers.”
Last year, Gage Zero secured a significant commitment of $300 million from ARC Financial Corp. to develop charging infrastructure sites for medium- and heavy-duty electric fleets. This initiative reflects the urgent need to address the environmental impact of such vehicles, as highlighted by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which notes that M/HD fleets contribute disproportionately to transportation sector emissions.
As the alliance between Gage Zero and Hillwood paves the way for Texas’ first commercial EV charging facility, it serves as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration in driving sustainable innovation forward.
