Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the addition of 1,400 new electric buses to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation by April next year.
In the first phase, he inaugurated 100 non-AC electric buses, emphasizing the benefits of the Shakti scheme, providing free rides for women.
The move aims to enhance public transport services and address rising vehicular pollution in Bengaluru. Additionally, the BMTC is implementing an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) in 10 buses for passenger safety and driver awareness.
Over 40 lakh people travel daily on BMTC, with women from diverse backgrounds benefiting from free rides.
The chief minister emphasized the government’s commitment to economic empowerment and inclusion.
