India’s two-wheeler market registered nearly 1.92 million units in April 2026, recording a strong 12.9% year-on-year growth despite a slight seasonal dip from March levels, according to automotive intelligence firm JATO Dynamics.

The market saw a modest 2.3% month-on-month decline following the financial year-end sales surge in March, a trend analysts described as expected and seasonal rather than a sign of weakening demand.

Ravi Bhatia said the April figures reflected a more stable and predictable industry environment compared to previous years.

“April’s two-wheeler numbers reflect a mature and predictable market,” Bhatia said. “The marginal month-on-month decline is seasonal and expected. The year-on-year growth, on a higher base, is the real story — and it remains firmly intact.”

India’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer Hero MotoCorp retained its market leadership with registrations exceeding 550,000 units, driven by strong demand for commuter motorcycles. Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India followed closely with more than 470,000 registrations.

Among individual models, the Hero Splendor Plus remained India’s highest-registered two-wheeler, while the Honda Activa continued to dominate the scooter segment. The TVS Jupiter and Bajaj Pulsar also maintained strong sales momentum.

Motorcycles accounted for nearly 59% of total registrations in April, reinforcing their dominance in the Indian market. Scooters represented around 30% of registrations, while electric scooters increased their contribution to almost 9%, signalling steady growth in EV adoption across urban and semi-urban regions.

Geographically, Delhi emerged as India’s largest two-wheeler market during the month, followed by Bengaluru and Pune. At the state level, Uttar Pradesh led registrations ahead of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Bihar, highlighting broad-based demand across the country.

Industry analysts said improving consumer sentiment, easier financing access, and expanding electric mobility options continue to support the market’s resilience. Rural demand and commuter motorcycles are expected to remain key growth drivers in the coming months, alongside rising interest in electric scooters.

Bhatia added that the sector has entered FY27 with a level of stability not seen in several years.

“The underlying demand engine is stable, diversified and resilient,” he said.
