Tata Motors, a pioneering name in the automotive industry, has taken another significant step towards environmental sustainability by partnering with Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL), a renowned player in the renewable energy sector and a subsidiary of Tata Power. The collaboration involves a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) to establish a new 12 MWp on-site solar project at Tata Motors’ commercial vehicle manufacturing facility in Pune.

This initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Tata Group to promote eco-friendly manufacturing practices. The solar project, expected to be commissioned within six months of signing the PPA, is poised to make a substantial impact on Tata Motors’ sustainability goals. Once operational, it is estimated to generate approximately 17.5 million units of electricity annually, catering to nearly 17.2% of the facility’s annualized energy requirements. Moreover, this environmentally conscious endeavor is projected to reduce carbon emissions by over 12,400 tonnes per year.

Incorporating rooftop installations, this 12 MWp project complements the existing 8.73 MWp solar capacity at Tata Motors’ Commercial Vehicle Business Unit (CVBU) in Pune, bringing the total solar capacity at the site to 20.73 MWp. Over the coming years, Tata Motors intends to further expand its solar capacity in Pune to meet the rising demand for renewable energy.
