E.ON and BYD have entered into a strategic partnership to expand intelligent energy and electric mobility solutions for customers across Europe, with the first joint offering scheduled to launch in Germany in November 2026.
Under the partnership, E.ON will contribute its expertise in energy supply, smart charging and flexibility management, while BYD will provide its expertise in electric vehicles and battery technologies. The companies plan to gradually extend the joint offering to additional European markets.
The partnership comes as the European electric mobility market continues to expand. Around 10–11 million battery-electric vehicles are currently on European roads, with the number potentially reaching 40–50 million by 2030. The companies said this growth is increasing the need to integrate electric vehicles more closely with the energy system.
Under the planned offering, customers purchasing or leasing a fully electric BYD vehicle will have access to compatible energy and charging solutions from E.ON. Existing E.ON customers will also be able to benefit from the joint solutions.
First Joint Offering to Launch in Germany
E.ON and BYD will introduce their first joint customer offering in Germany in November 2026. The package will combine the purchase or leasing of a fully electric BYD vehicle with a smart electricity contract from E.ON and is planned to be available across BYD’s fully electric model range.
Customers leasing a vehicle could reduce their monthly costs by up to €20 through the use of intelligent charging functions. E.ON will optimize the charging process automatically, while a dedicated bonus scheme will reward customers for flexible electricity consumption.
The companies plan to expand the offering to other European markets in subsequent phases while continuing to develop the digital customer experience. Planned initiatives include integrating services into mobile applications and exploring technologies such as mixed reality to assist customers with vehicle setup and commissioning.
BYD Vehicles to Integrate With E.ON Home Energy Platform
E.ON’s existing E.ON Home Comfort platform connects and manages energy assets such as wallboxes, battery storage systems and heat pumps. The platform is designed to optimize household energy flows and enable customers to benefit from flexible energy consumption.
As part of the partnership, BYD electric vehicles will be gradually integrated into the E.ON Home Comfort platform. This will enable customers to manage their vehicles, smart charging functions and, over time, other home energy solutions through a single digital environment.
The companies said customers will retain control over their data and how it is used.
Partnership Targets Bidirectional Charging
E.ON and BYD also plan to test and scale additional flexibility solutions, including bidirectional charging and Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology.
V2G enables electric vehicles to function as flexible energy storage assets by allowing electricity to flow between the vehicle and the grid. The companies said wider adoption of the technology could support the integration of renewable energy, reduce overall energy system costs and create additional savings opportunities for customers.
Marc Spieker, Chief Operating Officer Commercial at E.ON SE, said the partnership combines energy, mobility and digital technologies while creating a foundation for bringing flexibility services such as bidirectional charging to the mass market.
