Volvo Trucks has launched a new lineup of electric heavy-duty trucks, including a long-haul model capable of delivering up to 700 km range on a single charge, marking a significant advancement in zero-emission transport.

The highlight of the announcement is the new Volvo FH Aero Electric, designed for long-distance operations. Equipped with advanced e-axle technology, the truck allows for increased battery capacity and improved efficiency, enabling extended range without compromising payload or performance.

According to the company, the truck supports the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), allowing batteries to charge from 20% to 80% in approximately 50 minutes. This enables operators to recharge during mandated driver rest periods, maintaining productivity levels comparable to diesel trucks.

“We are broadening our offering and making electric solutions viable for a wider range of transport needs,” said Roger Alm. “With a range of up to 700 km, it has never been easier to replace diesel trucks with electric ones.”

In addition to the long-haul model, Volvo introduced next-generation versions of its FH, FM, and FMX Electric trucks. These models offer ranges of up to 470 km and feature a new dual-motor driveline paired with advanced gearboxes for smoother performance, enhanced flexibility, and improved driver comfort.

The updated trucks are designed for a variety of applications, including regional distribution, construction, urban logistics, and heavy-duty operations. A key innovation is the integrated power take-off system, which allows auxiliary equipment—such as concrete mixers or refuse units—to operate without additional motors.

All new models feature optimized gearboxes for seamless shifting, reduced noise, and minimal vibration, contributing to a more efficient and comfortable driving experience.

Volvo Trucks emphasized that the rollout of these models will begin in phases starting in 2026 across global markets.

The launch aligns with the company’s long-term strategy to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. Volvo is pursuing a three-path technology approach, combining battery electric, fuel cell electric, and renewable fuel-powered combustion engines to drive the transition toward fossil-free transport.

With one of the industry’s most extensive electric truck portfolios, Volvo Trucks continues to position itself at the forefront of sustainable commercial mobility, aiming to accelerate the global shift away from diesel-powered transport.
