Toyota Motor Corporation has officially launched the completely redesigned Toyota Hilux in Japan, introducing a bold new pickup truck aimed at blending durability, modern styling, and enhanced driving comfort for both work and leisure users.

First introduced in 1968, the Hilux has built a global reputation for reliability and toughness, with sales spanning more than 190 countries and regions. The latest generation continues that legacy while embracing updated technology and improved comfort features for modern lifestyles.

The new Hilux adopts a “Cyber SUMO” design concept, inspired by the explosive power and stability of sumo wrestling. The exterior features a more aggressive front grille, sculpted fenders, and a wider stance, while the flagship Z “Adventure” grade adds rugged styling elements such as a front lower bumper garnish and sports bar.

Inside, Toyota has redesigned the cabin with a strong horizontal dashboard layout intended to improve visibility during off-road driving. A large 12.3-inch center display and simplified switch arrangement enhance usability, while the rugged interior styling reinforces the pickup’s adventurous identity.

Powered by Toyota’s proven 2.8-liter 1GD-FTV diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission, the Hilux delivers both strong acceleration and fuel efficiency. The vehicle also retains its ladder-frame construction and part-time four-wheel-drive system, supported by Multi-Terrain Select and Multi-Terrain Monitor technologies for improved off-road capability.

Toyota says ride comfort has been significantly improved through suspension tuning, increased chassis rigidity, and the adoption of electric power steering. Additional features such as Radar Cruise Control with stop-hold functionality and enhanced driver assistance systems further improve everyday usability.

Safety technologies have also been expanded under Toyota Safety Sense, including Proactive Driving Assist and enhanced Pre-collision Safety systems capable of detecting pedestrians and oncoming vehicles at intersections.

The new Hilux will be offered in two variants in Japan: the standard Z model priced at ¥4,980,800 and the Z “Adventure” model at ¥5,500,000, including tax.

Toyota plans to sell around 690 units annually in Japan. Production will take place at the Ban Pho Plant operated by Toyota Motor Thailand.

The launch reflects Toyota’s continued focus on vehicles that combine practicality, lifestyle appeal, and advanced mobility technology for customers worldwide.
