Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. has reported a decline in its global production, sales, and exports for April 2026, reflecting continued pressure across several international markets despite stronger performance in Japan and the United States.
According to the company’s latest operational results, global production fell 4.2% year-on-year to 212,463 vehicles in April. Production in Japan increased 5.4% to 46,436 vehicles, supported by higher passenger and commercial vehicle output. However, production outside Japan declined 6.6% to 166,027 units.
Among overseas markets, Nissan recorded strong production growth in the United States, where output rose 32.2% to 51,821 vehicles. In contrast, production declined sharply in Mexico by 31.4% and in China by 10%. Production in the United Kingdom also slipped marginally by 1.5%.
For the January-April 2026 period, Nissan’s global production dropped 4.3% to 898,098 vehicles compared to the same period last year.
On the sales front, Nissan’s global sales declined 7.6% year-on-year in April to 208,663 vehicles. Sales outside Japan fell 8.8%, while sales in Japan, including minivehicles, increased 2.4% to 24,939 units.
The company reported a 9.8% rise in US sales during April, reaching 79,619 vehicles. However, weaker demand in China and Europe weighed heavily on overall global performance. Sales in China plunged 30.8%, while European sales declined 12.1%.
Nissan’s minivehicle segment in Japan posted strong growth of 11.5%, helping offset weaker registered vehicle sales, which declined 3.4%.
Between January and April 2026, Nissan’s global sales stood at 1.03 million vehicles, down 5.5% compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, exports from Japan declined 14.5% year-on-year in April to 24,604 vehicles. Exports to Europe recorded the steepest drop, falling 64.9%, while exports to North America declined 7.4%. Despite the monthly decline, cumulative exports from Japan for the first four months of 2026 rose slightly by 1%.
Nissan noted that following the sale of shares in Renault Nissan Automotive India Pvt. Ltd. (RNAIPL), India-related figures now include only Nissan-produced models, excluding Renault production from year-on-year comparisons.
The automaker continues to focus on strengthening operational efficiency and sustainable mobility initiatives amid changing global automotive market conditions.
