Volvo Buses has secured an order for 25 new airport coaches from Swedish transport operator Vy, strengthening their long-standing partnership focused on sustainable and comfortable passenger travel.
The new coaches will operate under Vy flygbussarna services, connecting travelers to and from airports in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and Malmö. The investment forms part of Vy’s broader strategy to enhance passenger comfort and operational reliability while reducing environmental impact.
The buses are built on Volvo’s advanced B13R chassis and feature an updated body design from Carrus Delta. Equipped with Volvo’s I-Shift gearbox, the coaches are expected to deliver improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions. Both companies have shared a commitment to sustainable mobility for years, having introduced biofuel-powered buses in Sweden as early as 2008.
Jonas Pettersson of Volvo Buses said the order represents another important step toward greener passenger transport solutions. He emphasized that the partnership with Vy continues to drive innovation in reliability, comfort, and reduced climate impact.
Vy’s Commercial Director for Bus in Sweden, Zakaria Abna-Aissa, noted that the investment will help provide passengers with more comfortable and dependable airport journeys while supporting the company’s sustainability goals.
In addition to the coach order, the agreement includes a comprehensive Volvo Gold Contract service package covering maintenance, inspections, and repairs. The service arrangement is designed to maximize vehicle uptime and ensure cost-efficient operations throughout the buses’ lifecycle.
Deliveries have already begun, with the first five buses scheduled for arrival in May 2026. The remaining vehicles will be delivered progressively during the autumn season.
As part of the collaboration, Volvo Buses and Vy will also introduce an electric coach on the Gothenburg–Landvetter Airport route. The electric vehicle, identified as the Volvo BZR Electric – CD, is set to begin commercial operations in May and represents another milestone in the companies’ efforts to accelerate sustainable public transport solutions.
Volvo Group stated that the agreement highlights growing demand for environmentally friendly transportation systems across Europe, particularly in airport and intercity travel services.
