Volvo Buses has marked a major milestone in its electrification journey with the launch of its new electric coach, the Volvo BZR Electric – CD, now entering commercial service in Sweden. The first operator to deploy the model is Vy Flygbussarna, which will run the coach on the Gothenburg–Landvetter Airport route starting this spring.

The introduction of the Volvo BZR Electric – CD represents a significant step forward for sustainable long-distance travel. Designed on Volvo’s modular BZR Electric platform, the coach can be adapted for various operational needs, including shorter routes or extended range applications.

Equipped with seven batteries offering a total capacity of 630 kWh, the electric coach is engineered to deliver a smooth, quiet, and energy-efficient driving experience. The vehicle is capable of accommodating up to 67 passengers and comes fitted with onboard Wi-Fi and USB charging ports, enhancing comfort and convenience for travelers.

Volvo Buses highlighted that the new model combines passenger comfort with driver-focused features. The coach includes an ergonomic instrument cluster, highly adjustable seating, and predictable handling characteristics, ensuring ease of operation for drivers alongside a premium experience for passengers.

The deployment also underscores the strong partnership between Volvo Buses and Vy Flygbussarna. Both companies emphasized their shared commitment to advancing sustainable mobility and reducing emissions in public transport.

Vy Flygbussarna stated that introducing the electric coach into real-world service demonstrates that cleaner and more efficient long-distance travel is already achievable today. The move aligns with broader industry trends as operators increasingly adopt electric solutions to meet environmental goals.

The Volvo BZR Electric – CD will also be showcased publicly for the first time at the Busstorget fair in Halmstad, Sweden, on April 16–17, providing industry stakeholders an opportunity to experience the new model firsthand.

With this launch, Volvo Buses continues to strengthen its position in the global transition toward zero-emission transport, offering scalable electric solutions for both urban and intercity travel segments.
