Toyota Kirloskar Motor has announced plans to establish a new vehicle manufacturing plant in Maharashtra’s Bidkin Industrial Area, marking a major step in strengthening its long-term presence in India and neighbouring export markets.

The new facility is scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2029 and will have an annual production capacity of 100,000 vehicles. The plant is expected to employ around 2,800 people during the initial phase of operations.

According to the company, the upcoming facility will manufacture a new SUV model and include key production operations such as stamping, welding, painting, and assembly. Toyota stated that the plant is being developed to meet rising customer demand in India while also serving surrounding regions.

The announcement reflects Toyota’s continued confidence in the Indian automotive market. The company said its journey in India has progressed alongside the growth of the country’s automobile industry and acknowledged the support of local communities and industry stakeholders.

Toyota emphasized that the new plant will strengthen its ability to respond flexibly to future market changes and customer expectations. The company also reiterated its commitment to contributing to India’s industrial and social development through investment, employment generation, and advanced manufacturing capabilities.

Toyota Motor Corporation currently holds an 89 percent stake in Toyota Kirloskar Motor, while Kirloskar Systems Limited owns the remaining 11 percent.

Toyota already operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, Karnataka. The first plant, operational since 1999, produces models such as the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender, with a production capacity of 132,000 units annually. The second plant, which started operations in 2010, manufactures the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux, with an installed capacity of 210,000 units.

Together, Toyota’s India operations currently have a total installed production capacity of up to 342,000 vehicles per year.

The proposed Maharashtra facility is expected to further enhance Toyota’s manufacturing footprint in India and reinforce the country’s role in the company’s regional growth strategy.
