In a groundbreaking move to redefine airport mobility, Hyundai Motor Group and Incheon International Airport Corporation (IIAC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deploy artificial intelligence-based electric vehicle (EV) automatic charging robots (ACRs) at the airport. The partnership aims to set a new global benchmark for smart transportation infrastructure and customer convenience.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Heui Won Yang, President and Head of Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Division, and Hag Jae Lee, President and CEO of IIAC, alongside other key officials.

Charging the Future: Seamless, Safe, and Smart

The ACR technology, developed by Hyundai Motor Group’s Robotics Lab, leverages advanced AI and robotics to automate EV charging, offering contactless and user-friendly services. These robots, already certified under Korea’s KC standards and the EU’s CE safety certification, are designed to enhance user safety and operational efficiency.

“This collaboration is a milestone in bringing futuristic mobility experiences to real-world settings,” said Heui Won Yang. “By merging Hyundai’s AI and robotics expertise with Incheon Airport’s operational excellence, we are building a smarter and more sustainable future.”

As part of the airport’s transformation under the ‘Incheon Airport 4.0 Era,’ the new system will support rising EV demand amid increasing passenger traffic. The robots will be demonstrated and tested onsite to gather real-time user feedback and optimize the technology for future global expansion.

Hag Jae Lee emphasized, “This partnership will revolutionize customer service and operational logistics at Incheon Airport, reinforcing our position as a world-leading digital airport.”

Scaling Beyond Borders

The collaboration is not limited to airports. Hyundai and IIAC plan to scale the ACR deployment to other key transportation nodes including seaports and railway stations, promoting EV adoption and smart infrastructure worldwide.

The Group also plans to integrate its Robotics Total Solution (RTS), combining smart parking and charging solutions with comprehensive hardware-software packages tailored for high-security environments like airports.

A Vision for Tomorrow’s Mobility

This strategic partnership exemplifies Hyundai’s growing influence in mobility innovation, with previous deployments of delivery and parking robots in smart office buildings already setting new standards.
