As World EV Day 2024 arrives, it highlights the pivotal shift toward sustainable transportation and the profound impact of electric vehicles (EVs) on our future. This day serves as a reminder of the urgent need to rethink our travel habits and embrace cleaner alternatives, especially in countries where transportation significantly contributes to carbon emissions.

The transition to electric vehicles is not just about adopting new technology but making a conscious choice for a greener future. Governments are making strides by supporting public transport initiatives and offering incentives for private EV adoption. This shift represents more than just a reduction in carbon footprints—it also presents opportunities for job creation, innovation, and economic growth.

The Indian EV industry is rapidly advancing towards its net-zero goals, reflecting a broader global trend. The expansion in electric vehicle adoption, particularly in logistics and public transportation, is crucial for achieving sustainability targets. Companies are focusing on integrating cutting-edge EV technology into their fleets, enhancing operational efficiency, and contributing to the country’s Net Zero goal by 2070.

As World EV Day 2024 approaches, the shift toward electric vehicles (EVs) is gaining momentum.

Rampraveen Swaminathan, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Logistics Ltd., highlighted the transformative potential of the logistics sector in achieving India’s goal of 100% electric last-mile logistics by 2030. “We are proud to be at the forefront of this green transition, operating the largest electric vehicle fleet in last-mile delivery,” said Swaminathan, who also emphasized their investment of INR 360 million in additional EVs and charging infrastructure.

Akihiro Ueda, CEO of Terra Charge, congratulated India on its progress but noted that adoption is slow beyond Tier-I cities. He suggested more grassroots efforts, such as targeted incentives and subsidies, to boost EV adoption and build out charging infrastructure.

Prashant Vashishtha, CMD of Sokudo Electric India, expressed excitement about the rapid transformation of India’s two-wheeler fleet. “Government initiatives like FAME II subsidies have allowed more people to own electric scooters, pushing India closer to becoming a global EV leader,” he stated.

Akash Gupta, CEO & Co-founder of Zypp Electric, celebrated the collective efforts toward green mobility. “Our vision is to touch one million lives over the next four years, powered by innovation and the ZyppX franchise model, expanding EVs into tier 2-3 towns,” Gupta shared.

Hyder Khan, CEO & Director of Godawari Electric Motors, highlighted the need to look beyond passenger vehicles in the EV push. Khan announced the launch of the Eblu Cety e-rickshaw, designed to make a significant environmental impact, while urging the industry to take a comprehensive approach to green mobility.

Sameer Aggarwal, Founder & CEO of RevFin, emphasized the critical role of sustainable fleet mobility. “Policies like FAME 3 and widespread charging infrastructure are key to reinforcing green mobility and supporting the sector’s growth,” Aggarwal noted.

Aditya Singh Ratnu, CEO & Co-Founder of ZEVO, shared a forward-looking perspective, noting challenges like expanding charging networks and reducing battery costs. He called for a collective effort between governments, manufacturers, and consumers to drive the shift to electric transportation.

As the industry continues to grow, there is a significant emphasis on upscaling technology and minimizing environmental impact throughout the supply chain. Innovations such as energy-efficient battery technologies and sustainable manufacturing processes are becoming increasingly important. This includes efforts to recycle and recover materials used in battery production to further support environmental sustainability.
