Hindustan Zinc Limited has signed a six-year transportation contract with MFL India Limited for the deployment of 30 electric trucks to transport zinc and lead concentrate from its Rampura Agucha mine to smelting operations in Rajasthan.
The contract, which can be extended by an additional two years, will see electric trucks progressively replace conventional diesel vehicles on the mine-to-smelter logistics route. MFL India will also establish and operate dedicated electric vehicle charging infrastructure to support the fleet.
Rampura Agucha is Hindustan Zinc’s underground mining operation in Rajasthan. The transition is expected to support the company’s efforts to reduce emissions from material transportation while maintaining the existing logistics network.
Electric Fleet Expansion
Hindustan Zinc added 42 electric vehicles for material transportation across its operations during FY2025-26. The company’s cleaner mobility fleet has expanded to 232 vehicles, comprising 52 electric vehicles and 180 LNG vehicles.
The company has also deployed battery-electric vehicles in underground mining at the Sindesar Khurd Mine in Rajpura Dariba, Rajasthan. It has subsequently expanded the use of electric and alternative-fuel vehicles across mining equipment, material transportation and workforce mobility.
Hindustan Zinc said the phased transition with MFL India is intended to address the higher upfront capital requirements associated with emerging technologies while enabling the continued participation of local drivers in the transportation network.
Decarbonisation Roadmap
The electric truck deployment forms part of Hindustan Zinc’s broader decarbonisation strategy, which targets Net Zero emissions by 2050 or earlier.
The company has increased the share of renewable energy in its power mix to nearly 22% and is continuing to expand renewable power, electrification, energy efficiency and other lower-carbon technologies across its operations and value chain.
The six-year agreement with MFL India marks an expansion of electric mobility into concentrate transportation, extending the company’s use of cleaner transport solutions beyond mining and workforce mobility.
