Log9 Materials, an Indian battery startup, inaugurated India’s 1st commercial cell manufacturing facility in Jakkur, near Bengaluru. The new battery factory will be able to produce up to 50-megawatt hours of batteries per year, enough to power about 8000 electric three-wheeler vehicles.
This facility will focus on lithium-titanium-oxide (LTO) and LFP lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell manufacturing Going forward. The company will also expand its capacity depending on the scalability and demand.
The plant is a sign of the Bengaluru startup’s desire to increase its presence in the domestic electric vehicle market. The line will be used to produce large-form cylindrical batteries ranging in series from 22 to 66.
Log9 has committed to reducing carbon emissions by 90T per vehicle in the next 5-year period, with a total reduction of CO2 of 14kT each year.
Akshay Singhal is the CEO and Co-Founder of Log9. “Our cells were designed in India for India. They are tailored to Indian operating conditions, climate, and customers,” he said.
The company has also announced partnerships for EV powertrains with Chara, another deep-tech start-up. Chara, based in Bengaluru, manufactures cloud-controlled motors for electric vehicles that are free of toxic rare earth metals. This reduces India’s dependence on imported products and accelerates electric mobility.
