To combat climate change, reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector is crucial. Electromobility is the key, but it requires a comprehensive charging infrastructure. Europe has made progress with publicly accessible charging stations, with the Netherlands leading the way with 111,821 charging points, followed by France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. However, the deployment must accelerate to meet the European Union’s goal of having 3.5 million charging points by 2030. To achieve this, fast charging points with 150 kW capacity need to be installed in 60-meter intervals along the highways, amounting to one million charging points by 2025.
Countries like Germany and France primarily rely on fast charging points that convert AC to DC, as they charge e-cars faster and for a wider range than AC charging stations. Germany has the most publicly accessible DC charging points, followed by France, Spain, Italy, and the Netherlands.
Power2Drive Europe 2023, an international exhibition for charging infrastructure and electromobility, will take place at Messe München from June 14–16, 2023. More than 250 companies will be presenting their latest products and solutions, including charging solutions for fleets and smart solutions for combining low-cost renewable power generation and sustainable mobility. There will be indoor and outdoor demonstrations of products and solutions, and exhibitors, including Skoda, Lucid, and Nissan, will offer free test drives with their latest car models at the eCar Test Drive.
The accompanying Power2Drive Europe Conference will start on the day before the exhibition at the International Congress Center München (ICM) and will provide an overview of market trends, analyses, research findings, and innovative projects in the areas of e-mobility and charging infrastructure. Business consultancy PwC will host session dialogues discussing the future of electromobility with decision-makers at government and boardroom levels, addressing sector coupling and the challenge of collaborating across sectors.
To achieve the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the transport sector, a comprehensive and user-friendly charging infrastructure is essential. Power2Drive Europe 2023 will showcase the latest products and solutions and provide a platform for industry experts to discuss the future of e-mobility and charging infrastructure.
