NHEV Inaugurates India’s Largest EV Charging Facility
National Highway for Electric Vehicle (NHEV) inaugurates the largest electric vehicle charging station in the country in Sector 52 of Gurgaon. The EV Charging stations have been set up and operated by Alektrify. This EV charging station has 100 charging points just for four-wheelers where 24 points are DC fast chargers and 72 points are AC slow chargers. Alektrify is the official installation and commissioning partner company of NHEV for establishing EV charging stations under the program of Ease of Doing Business pilot on Jaipur–Delhi-Agra E-highway.
Niti Aayog Recommends Railways To Set Up EV Charging Stations
Niti Aayog recommends railways to have at least 20% of parking capacity in the office complexes or railway stations for establishing EV charging stations. It also suggested installing a minimum of 1 EV charging pointer battery charging and swapping stations at the railway colony and targeted manned level crossing. All the proposals are part of initiatives taken by the government of India to for promoting the use of electric vehicles, set up charging infrastructure, and manufacture vehicles domestically. Railways can begin with recently redeveloped 123 railway stations and gradually all the suburban railway stations can be covered. At the major railway stations, building EV charging infrastructure is important and payment tools like Fastag or UPI can be used.
Mahindra Enters The E-cart Segment With The Launch Of eAlfa Cargo
Mahindra Electric Mobility Ltd, part of the Mahindra Group, today announced the launch of its new electric 3-wheeler, the eAlfa Cargo. The eAlfa Cargo is attractively priced at ₹ 1.44 Lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. An e Alfa Cargo owner can save up to ₹ 60 000.00 per year in fuel costs when compared with a diesel cargo 3-wheeler. The launch of the e Alfa Cargo marks the entry of Mahindra in the rapidly growing e-cart segment.
Odisha To Give 15% Subsidy On EV Purchase
The Odisha government will give a 15% subsidy on every purchase of electric vehicles according to the Commerce and Transport Department of the state. The subsidy for electric two-wheelers will be 15% of the cost of the vehicle and up to Rs. 5000. On electric three-wheelers, the maximum subsidy cap is Rs. 10,000 and for electric four-wheelers, the subsidy is Rs. 50,000. This comes after the recommendations of Niti Aayog and this also agrees with the Odisha EV Policy 2021. The subsidy will be applicable from September 1st, 2021. The RTO where the electric vehicle will be registered will credit the amount of the subsidy to the beneficiary’s bank accounts. This subsidy scheme will be available only till December 31, 2025.
Government To Bring Battery Swapping Policy
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday announced that the government will bring a battery swapping policy to boost the use of electric vehicles in the country in view of space constraints for setting up charging stations. She stated that the private sector will be encouraged to set up sustainable business models for battery or energy service and this will improve efficiency in the EV (electric vehicle) ecosystem. The policy will facilitate the faster rollout of battery swapping centres where EV owners would be able to refuel their EV by replacing exhausted batteries with charged ones. This will also save time taken in charging the embedded batteries in EVs.
Delhi To Release Guidebook For Installing EV Charging At Malls
The Delhi government will launch a guidebook to simplify the process of the adoption of electric vehicle charging in the parking spaces of shopping malls. This will promote clean energy in the city. The guidebook will be released on February 4 by the World Resources Institute (WRI), India, and the Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi (DDC) will include all the necessary details for shopping mall owners to understand the relevance of EV charging. The document will include all the processes for planning and implementing EV charging stations in the parking slots of the malls. The event will be attended by Amit Bhatt, Executive Director (Integrated Transport), WRI India, Jasmine Shah, Vice-Chairperson, DDC Delhi, and other members of shopping mall associations of the city.
Decarbonization of the Transport Sector
To promote eco-friendly means of transportation and decarbonize the transport sector, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has notified mass emission standards to introduce alternate fuels. As per the third Biennial Update Report submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in February 2021, the total greenhouse gas (GHGs) emission from the transport sector in 2016 was 274.43 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent, which is 9.67% of the total GHG emissions (without LULUCF i.e. Land Use, Land-Use Change, and Forestry) of India. Further, the Government has taken various measures to curtail the CO2 emissions which are mentioned in part (a) of the reply.
