Continental has secured a major original equipment partnership with Renault, supplying its EcoContact 7 tires exclusively for the new all-electric Renault Twingo worldwide.

The latest generation of Renault’s compact electric vehicle will leave production lines fitted with 18-inch Continental EcoContact 7 tires as standard. The tires have received top EU label ratings for energy efficiency and rolling noise, aligning with growing industry demand for components that improve EV range and driving comfort.

Continental said the EcoContact 7 was engineered specifically to enhance efficiency in electric vehicles. Its Smart Energy Casing technology incorporates advanced materials in the tire’s carcass, liner, and sidewall to reduce internal friction and lower rolling resistance, helping maximize battery range.

The tire also features Continental’s Aerodimple technology, inspired by the dimples on golf balls. This aerodynamic sidewall design reduces air turbulence around the tire, enabling vehicles to consume less energy during operation.

In addition to efficiency gains, Continental emphasized noise reduction as a key development focus. The EcoContact 7’s newly designed Silent Pattern tread optimizes tread block spacing and angles to minimize rolling noise, particularly at lower urban driving speeds. This contributes to a quieter ride for passengers while reducing noise pollution in cities.

Renault approved the EcoContact 7 in the size 205/45 R18 90H XL FR for the new Twingo across multiple global markets.

The partnership reflects the increasing collaboration between automakers and tire manufacturers as electric mobility continues to evolve. With EV buyers placing greater emphasis on driving range, energy efficiency, and comfort, specialized tire technologies are becoming a critical factor in vehicle performance.

As automakers accelerate their transition toward electrification, Continental’s latest agreement with Renault highlights the growing importance of innovative components designed specifically for the next generation of electric vehicles.
