Toyota has officially launched the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ in Japan, introducing a smaller and more accessible addition to its legendary Land Cruiser family. The new FJ series is designed around the concept of “Freedom & Joy,” aiming to attract drivers seeking both urban practicality and genuine off-road capability.

Joining the existing 300, 70, and 250 Land Cruiser series, the compact FJ retains the rugged DNA that has defined the brand for decades. Built on a durable ladder-frame platform, the SUV features shortened wheelbase dimensions for improved maneuverability while maintaining strong off-road performance through high wheel articulation, generous ground clearance, and advanced traction technologies.

Powering the Land Cruiser FJ is a 2.7-liter inline four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with a 6-speed Super ECT automatic transmission, producing 163 PS and 246 N·m of torque. Toyota says the setup balances smooth everyday driving with dependable off-road control, particularly on steep or uneven terrain.

The vehicle’s design combines classic Land Cruiser cues with a playful modern identity. Its boxy silhouette, U-shaped lighting signature, rear-mounted spare tire, and customizable accessories emphasize both utility and lifestyle appeal. Despite its compact footprint, the FJ offers a spacious cabin with a two-row, five-seat layout and up to 1,607 liters of cargo space when the rear seats are folded.

Toyota has also equipped the FJ with modern safety and convenience technologies, including Toyota Safety Sense, a panoramic view monitor, blind spot monitoring, and a 12.3-inch infotainment display with connected navigation.

In a notable expansion of the Land Cruiser ecosystem, Toyota also previewed the “Land Hopper,” a foldable electric personal mobility vehicle scheduled for release in 2027. Designed for off-road trails and outdoor touring, the compact e-mobility device can fit inside the FJ’s cargo area, extending adventure opportunities beyond where the SUV can travel.

Priced from 4.5 million yen (including tax), the Land Cruiser FJ will also be available through Toyota’s KINTO subscription service. Toyota plans monthly domestic sales of 1,300 units, with production taking place at the Ban Pho Plant in Thailand.

With cumulative global Land Cruiser sales surpassing 12.4 million units, Toyota says the FJ represents a new chapter for the iconic nameplate—one focused on versatility, customization, and a broader generation of adventure-minded drivers.
