General Motors has marked a historic milestone as its Flint Assembly plant produced its 16 millionth vehicle, reinforcing its legacy as the company’s longest-running assembly facility in North America.
The milestone vehicle, a Lakeshore Blue Metallic Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab LTZ, is powered by the 3.5 millionth Duramax diesel engine manufactured by DMAX. The achievement highlights the company’s continued focus on durability, quality, and customer trust in its heavy-duty truck lineup.
The celebration took place on the plant floor, where employees were recognized across all stages of production—from body and paint to final assembly—emphasizing the collective effort behind the landmark achievement. Theo Lavergne, Executive Director of Flint Assembly, stated that the milestone reflects the teamwork, craftsmanship, and commitment to quality demonstrated by the workforce every day.
Adding a personal touch to the occasion, customer Andy Sanford was invited to witness his new truck being built. Sanford, a long-time GM customer, previously owned a 2016 Silverado HD that has nearly reached one million miles, underscoring the durability associated with GM vehicles. He also experienced the vehicle’s final testing phase before delivery.
Flint Assembly has been operational since 1947 and has played a significant role in shaping GM’s automotive legacy. Over the decades, the plant has produced several iconic vehicles, including early models of the Chevrolet Corvette, the classic Chevrolet Bel Air, and the widely recognized Chevrolet Impala.
In the truck segment, the facility has been central to the production of legendary models such as the Chevrolet C/K Series and continues to manufacture the Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD—key vehicles in GM’s high-value portfolio.
The milestone not only celebrates the plant’s long-standing history but also reflects GM’s commitment to maintaining high manufacturing standards and innovation in the commercial and consumer vehicle segments.
As the automotive industry evolves, Flint Assembly remains a critical hub for GM’s truck production, supporting both legacy craftsmanship and future advancements. The company noted that the achievement stands as a tribute to its employees, partners, and customers who have contributed to building one of the most enduring manufacturing legacies in the industry.
