In a significant step toward enhancing the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, General Motors (GM), Pilot Company, and EVgo Inc. have reached a major milestone in their nationwide EV charging collaboration. The partnership has now deployed fast-charging stations at more than 130 locations across 25 states, providing greater convenience for EV drivers on long-distance road trips.

As EV adoption continues to rise, the expanded network is helping to connect major highway corridors, making long trips easier for electric vehicle owners. Key routes benefiting from the initiative include I-75 between Michigan and Georgia, as well as regional highways such as Minneapolis to Milwaukee, Detroit to Cleveland, and San Antonio to Houston.

Expanding Charging Access on the Open Road

“As we strive to be the leading energy and experience provider people rely on to fuel their journeys, our travel centers are uniquely able to fill a need for EV owners who are looking to make the most of their miles,” said Shannon Sturgil, Senior Vice President of Alternative Fuels at Pilot.

The collaboration, first announced in 2022, aims to install up to 2,000 fast-charging stalls at 500 Pilot and Flying J locations nationwide. These charging stations go beyond basic refueling, offering travelers premium amenities such as spacious lounges, free Wi-Fi, modernized restrooms, and on-site dining options. Many locations also feature covered canopies and pull-through charging stalls, making access easier for vehicles towing trailers.

Fast and Reliable Charging for Every Journey

Equipped with EVgo’s high-power chargers, which deliver up to 350 kW, EV drivers can recharge in as little as 15 minutes. The network also supports Plug-and-Charge technology, allowing compatible GM vehicles to initiate and pay for charging sessions automatically upon plugging in. This seamless experience can be accessed through GM vehicle mobile apps.

The demand for such infrastructure is rising as EV adoption accelerates. In 2024, U.S. EV sales hit 1.3 million, with GM experiencing a 50% surge in sales during the fourth quarter alone. To meet this growing demand, GM, Pilot, and EVgo are committed to expanding their network and ensuring that EV drivers have reliable access to fast charging nationwide.

A Road Trip Revolution

“Spring break is all about hitting the road, making memories, and enjoying the journey — not worrying about where to charge,” said Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy. “With over 130 locations now open, we’re ensuring charging is seamless and convenient so drivers can focus on their adventure.”

As the charging network continues to expand, GM, Pilot, and EVgo are making EV road trips more accessible and stress-free, solidifying their role in the future of electric mobility.
