Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal visited Tesla’s manufacturing facility in Fremont, California, expressing pride in the increasing role of Indian auto component suppliers in Tesla’s electric vehicle (EV) supply chain. He mentioned that Tesla is set to double its component imports from India.

Goyal, on a visit to the United States, highlighted the significant contributions of Indian engineers and finance professionals at senior positions within Tesla. He conveyed best wishes for Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s recovery and shared his satisfaction in witnessing the transformation of mobility through Tesla’s journey.

Goyal, participating in various meetings and events during his visit, also met with Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong, discussing ways to deepen economic collaboration between India and Singapore. He engaged with US Trade Representative Katherine Tai on the sidelines of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework meeting, focusing on trade-related discussions.

Scheduled bilateral meetings with US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and representatives from various sectors aim to address trade barriers, promote investments, and enhance cooperation in technology and innovation. The visit will also feature a joint event, co-chaired with Gina Raimondo, called the “India-USA Innovation Handshake Initiative,” focusing on fostering innovation, job growth, and collaboration in emerging technologies.

Goyal’s agenda includes participation in an investors’ roundtable, one-to-one meetings with CEOs, and interactions with students, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, and the Indian diaspora. The visit emphasizes engagement with the technology, entrepreneurship, and academic communities in Silicon Valley to encourage investment and expansion in India across sectors like electronics, technology, and FinTech.
