Blue Energy Motors has launched Bhiwandi’s first battery-swapping station designed specifically for electric heavy-duty trucks, in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL). The new facility aims to support the adoption of electric commercial vehicles and strengthen clean freight transportation across major logistics routes in India.

The station is located in Bhiwandi, a major warehousing and distribution hub in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. Its strategic location supports operations along the Mumbai-Pune Electric Freight Corridor, one of the country’s important industrial transportation routes. The facility is expected to help electric truck operators manage vehicle downtime and improve the efficiency of freight movement.

The key feature of the station is its battery-swapping technology, which enables heavy-duty electric trucks to replace depleted batteries in less than five minutes. Unlike conventional charging methods that require vehicles to remain connected to charging equipment for extended periods, battery swapping allows trucks to return to service quickly. This can improve fleet utilisation, reduce waiting time and support more efficient logistics operations.

Blue Energy Motors currently operates a fleet of more than 1,400 green heavy-duty trucks across key freight networks in India. The new station adds to the infrastructure required to support the company’s electric truck operations and improve the practicality of electric vehicles for commercial transportation.

In addition to battery swapping for heavy-duty trucks, the facility includes public electric vehicle charging infrastructure. It is designed to serve different categories of electric vehicles, including two-wheelers, four-wheelers and standard commercial vehicles. This approach expands the station’s role beyond freight transportation and provides charging options for other electric vehicle users.

The collaboration also brings electric mobility infrastructure into HPCL’s established retail fuel station network. Using existing energy distribution locations could help improve access to charging and battery-swapping services, particularly in busy industrial and logistics areas.

The launch highlights the importance of partnerships between vehicle manufacturers and established energy companies in developing infrastructure for electric mobility. For heavy-duty transport operators, reliable energy access and shorter vehicle turnaround times are important factors in the transition from conventional fuel-powered trucks to electric alternatives.
