The Odisha Government increased the subsidy for the purchase of EVs in the state. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting presided by Naveen Patel.

Odisha Government amends electric vehicle policy to increase purchase incentives for EVs. The state government had set a goal of adopting 20% electric vehicles by the end of 2025 as a measure of reducing vehicular pollution. However, only 4.48% of electric vehicles have been registered by the end of 2022, which is far below the policy objective.

In response, the government has amended clause 4.1.1 of the Odisha Electric Vehicle Policy, 2021 to increase the purchase incentive for various categories of vehicles.

Two-wheelers will now receive a subsidy of Rs. 5000 per kWh, up to a maximum of Rs. 20,000, while three-wheelers will receive a flat subsidy of Rs. 30,000 per vehicle. Four-wheelers will receive a subsidy of Rs. 10,000 per kWh, up to a maximum of Rs. 1,50,000. These changes aim to encourage more people to buy electric vehicles and help Odisha achieve its desired goal.
