SUN Mobility Partners With Pilipinas Shell To Provide Battery Swapping Technology In The Philippines

SUN Mobility, a provider for energy infrastructure and services for electric vehicles, has recently signed an agreement with Pilipinas Shell for the deployment of its battery-swapping technology in the Philippines for electric two- and three-wheelers.

This partnership is designed to increase the adoption of EVs in the Philippines. It provides a practical, economical solution that emits zero tailpipe emissions. It supports the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act that was recently passed. This Act promotes sustainable electric transportation.

This pilot project will see Shell Mobility stations deploy SUN Mobility Swap Points. These Swap Points are based upon state-of-the-art interoperable technology that includes Quick Interchange Stations, Smart Batteries, and Smart Networks (cloud-based IoT backend).

This will allow electric two and three-wheelers to swap their batteries at Shell mobility stations in under two minutes. It provides a cost-effective solution that has a significant range. The pilot is scheduled to launch in 2023’s first half.

Jolo Valdez is the E-Mobility and Innovations Manager at Pilipinas Shell. He shared that Shell is pleased to collaborate with both the public and private sectors to find solutions to decarbonize mobility and transport. In the next decades, both 2-wheel and 3-wheel electric cars will be key use case for logistic companies and fleet operators. This pilot deployment will test the feasibility and technology of smart battery swapping services for the Philippine B2B market. To test these technologies and solutions, we are grateful for the support of our government agencies.
