In a strategic move aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and focusing on growth priorities, bp announces significant changes to its organizational structure. The restructuring initiative supports the company’s commitment to simplification, agility, and delivering higher value.

Under the new structure, bp will maintain its three core businesses – production & operations, gas & low carbon energy, and customers & products – complemented by trading & shipping. The current regions, corporates & solutions organization will be integrated into these businesses and functions, while five key functions – finance, technology, strategy, sustainability & ventures, people & culture, and legal – will provide essential support.

This restructuring aims to reduce duplication and reporting line complexity, fostering a more streamlined and focused approach within bp. As part of these changes, the executive leadership team will be streamlined to ten members, reflecting the company’s commitment to efficiency and agility.

William Lin, who previously led regions, corporates & solutions, will now lead the gas & low carbon energy business, succeeding Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath, who is retiring. Emeka Emembolu will head bp’s technology function, taking over from Leigh-Ann Russell, who is leaving for an external opportunity.

Murray Auchincloss, bp’s chief executive officer, emphasized the company’s commitment to transitioning from an International Oil Company (IOC) to an Integrated Energy Company (IEC), stating that these changes will help bp become a simpler, more focused, and higher value organization. Auchincloss commended Lin’s extensive experience and leadership, as well as Emembolu’s contributions to safety, value growth, and technology throughout his 25-year tenure at bp.

William Lin, already a member of bp’s leadership team, brings 28 years of experience to his new role, with a proven track record of managing complex relationships and driving business resilience. Emeka Emembolu, who has served as chief of staff for the past two years, has demonstrated strong leadership and technical expertise across various roles within bp.

The restructuring underscores bp’s commitment to adaptability, efficiency, and delivering on its growth priorities while navigating the evolving energy landscape. As bp continues its journey towards sustainability and value creation, these organizational changes position the company for future success and resilience in the energy transition.
