Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) reported a strong performance in May 2026, with total vehicle sales reaching 99,636 units, representing a 20% year-on-year increase, supported by robust demand for its SUV portfolio, commercial vehicles, and exports.
The company sold 58,021 utility vehicles (SUVs) in the domestic market during the month, up 11% from the same period last year. Including exports, total utility vehicle sales stood at 59,573 units. Domestic commercial vehicle sales also posted healthy growth, rising 19% to 24,079 units.
Commenting on the results, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, said the company continued to witness sustained demand across its product portfolio despite supply-side challenges.
“In May, we achieved SUV sales of 58,021 units, a growth of 11%, and total vehicle sales stood at 99,636, a 20% year-on-year growth. The sustained demand across our portfolio continues, constrained by supply chain challenges due to manpower shortages at select suppliers,” Gollagunta said.
Mahindra’s passenger vehicle business remained a key growth driver. Utility vehicle sales for the first two months of FY2027 reached 114,352 units, a 9% increase compared to the same period last year.
In the commercial vehicle segment, light commercial vehicles under 2 tonnes recorded strong growth of 35%, with sales reaching 3,490 units. The 2-tonne to 3.5-tonne category grew 16% to 20,589 units.
The company also witnessed exceptional growth in its three-wheeler business, including electric three-wheelers. Sales nearly doubled to 12,536 units in May, representing an 89% increase year-on-year. Year-to-date three-wheeler sales rose 85% to 22,435 units.
Exports continued to contribute significantly to overall growth. Mahindra exported 5,000 vehicles in May, up 37% from 3,646 units a year earlier. For the year-to-date period, exports climbed 42% to 9,970 units.
The company noted that its overall sales figure includes SUVs, light commercial vehicles, three-wheelers, and export volumes. Sales also include contributions from subsidiaries Mahindra Electric Automobile Limited and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility Limited, reflecting the group’s growing presence in electric mobility.
Founded in 1945, Mahindra Group operates in over 100 countries and employs more than 324,000 people worldwide. The conglomerate maintains leadership positions across automotive, farm equipment, information technology, financial services, renewable energy, logistics, and real estate sectors.
With SUV demand remaining strong and export volumes continuing to rise, Mahindra appears well-positioned to sustain growth despite ongoing supply chain constraints affecting parts of the automotive industry.
