India’s growing focus on sustainable urban mobility and efficient waste management has received a boost with the launch of a new electric Garbage Van by Youdha. The company aims to support municipalities, sanitation agencies and private waste collection operators with an eco-friendly utility vehicle designed specifically for modern waste management operations.
The launch comes amid rising adoption of electric commercial vehicles in municipal and utility sectors, as cities across India increasingly seek cleaner and cost-effective transportation solutions.
The new electric garbage van is powered by a 10 kW AC induction motor paired with an 11.8 kWh battery pack. According to the company, the vehicle delivers a certified driving range of up to 167 kilometers on a single charge while achieving a top speed of 48 kmph. Charging time is estimated at approximately four to five hours.
Designed for urban and semi-urban waste collection operations, the vehicle offers a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW) of 1200 kg and a loading capacity of 700 kg. It also features a garbage storage box measuring 2300×1481×1420 mm, making it suitable for both dry and wet waste collection applications.
The electric Garbage Van includes operational features such as a digital instrument meter, a closed driver cabin and 215 mm ground clearance to improve usability and convenience in varying road conditions.
Commenting on the launch, Ayush Lohia said the company developed the vehicle to address the increasing demand for sustainable and efficient mobility solutions in India’s evolving waste management ecosystem.
“India’s waste management sector is rapidly evolving and there is a growing need for sustainable and efficient mobility solutions. Our electric Garbage Van has been developed to support cleaner cities, lower operational costs and environmentally responsible waste collection systems,” he said.
Industry experts believe electric commercial vehicles could play a crucial role in reducing operational emissions and fuel dependency while strengthening India’s sanitation infrastructure. Government initiatives promoting electric mobility are also expected to accelerate adoption in municipal operations over the coming years.
Youdha, which focuses on electric commercial vehicles for cargo, utility and municipal applications, said it plans to further expand its presence in the clean mobility segment with application-oriented EV solutions tailored for Indian operating conditions.
