Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported a 7% year-on-year increase in sales for May 2026, selling 33,128 units compared to 30,864 units in the same month last year. The performance was driven by steady domestic demand and a sharp rise in exports.

According to the company, domestic sales reached 30,574 units in May 2026, up 4% from 29,280 units in May 2025. Export volumes recorded a significant 61% growth, rising to 2,554 units from 1,584 units a year earlier.

For the first five months of 2026, Toyota sold a total of 170,322 vehicles, marking a 17% increase over the 146,021 units sold during the corresponding period in 2025. Domestic sales grew 16% to 157,225 units, while exports increased 20% to 13,097 units.

Commenting on the performance, Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said the results reflected strong customer acceptance of Toyota’s products and ownership experience. He noted that demand remained robust across the company’s portfolio, driven by customer preference for quality, reliability, and advanced technologies.

The company also celebrated a major milestone during the month, surpassing 300,000 cumulative sales of Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles (SHEVs) in India. Toyota said the achievement highlights the growing acceptance of hybrid technology and cleaner mobility solutions among Indian consumers.

Manohar stated that the milestone reinforces Toyota’s commitment to sustainable mobility through a multi-pathway strategy, combining different technologies to support India’s transition toward lower-emission transportation.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two manufacturing plants at Bidadi, Karnataka, with a combined annual production capacity of up to 342,000 vehicles. The first plant manufactures models such as the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, and Legender, while the second plant produces the Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Hilux.

The company’s broader portfolio in India also includes the Glanza, Rumion, and Urban Cruiser Taisor, while premium models such as the Vellfire and Land Cruiser 300 are imported as completely built units (CBUs).

With hybrid vehicle adoption gaining momentum and overall sales maintaining a positive trajectory, Toyota remains focused on innovation, customer-centric solutions, and contributing to India’s long-term carbon neutrality goals.
