Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced it will discontinue automobile sales operations in South Korea by the end of 2026, marking a significant strategic shift in its regional business approach.

The decision will impact the company’s local subsidiary, Honda Korea Co., Ltd., which has been responsible for both motorcycle and automobile sales in the country. Honda cited changing market conditions and the need to focus corporate resources on strengthening long-term global competitiveness as key reasons behind the move.

Despite exiting the automobile sales segment, Honda confirmed that it will continue to support existing customers in South Korea through comprehensive after-sales services. These include vehicle maintenance, parts supply, and warranty coverage, ensuring continuity for current owners of models such as the Accord and CR-V.

Honda Korea will now shift its primary focus to its motorcycle business, which the company described as the core of its operations in the country. The subsidiary plans to enhance its offerings and customer experience in this segment, continuing sales of key models including the PCX125, Super Cub, and FORZA series.

Established in 2001, Honda Korea began motorcycle sales in 2002 and expanded into automobile sales in 2004. Headquartered in Seoul, the company operates with full ownership by Honda Motor Co., Ltd. and currently employs 84 associates.

The move reflects broader changes in the global automotive landscape, where manufacturers are increasingly reevaluating regional strategies amid evolving consumer demand, electrification trends, and intensifying competition.

While Honda’s automobile presence in South Korea will come to an end, the company emphasized its commitment to maintaining customer trust through ongoing service support and strengthening its position in the motorcycle market.
