Honda Motor Co., Ltd. has announced the launch of the all-new fourth-generation Insight EV, marking its transformation from a pioneering hybrid model into a fully electric crossover SUV. The company will begin sales in Japan from April 17, 2026, with a limited production run of 3,000 units.
The all-new Insight has been developed as a distinctive electric vehicle (EV) that combines bold styling with enhanced comfort and performance. Featuring a sharp yet fluid exterior design, the model adopts a crossover SUV stance, delivering a strong road presence tailored for urban environments.
Inside, the cabin emphasizes comfort and premium quality, offering a spacious layout with soft-touch materials, ambient lighting, and a seamless design theme. A head-up display minimizes driver distraction, while a walk-through front console and reclining rear seats enhance passenger convenience during long journeys. The vehicle also offers a large cargo space with flexible storage configurations.
Powered by a high-output electric drive unit paired with a large-capacity battery, the Insight delivers a driving range of up to 535 km on the WLTC cycle. Fast-charging capability enables the battery to reach 80% charge in approximately 40 minutes, addressing range anxiety concerns for daily and long-distance travel.
The EV is equipped with four driving modes—Normal, Sport, Econ, and Snow—allowing drivers to adapt performance to different road conditions. In Sport mode, an Active Sound Control system generates virtual engine sounds to enhance the driving experience while maintaining the quietness typical of EVs.
Honda has also integrated advanced comfort technologies such as an Intelligent Heating System, which optimizes energy use by detecting passenger occupancy, along with radiant heating panels for improved efficiency. Additional features include an aroma diffuser with selectable fragrances and a 12-speaker Bose premium sound system designed to deliver an immersive in-cabin audio experience.
Safety remains a key focus, with the Insight coming standard with the Honda SENSING suite. This includes advanced driver-assistance systems such as Collision Mitigation Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, and Traffic Jam Assist, among others.
The new Insight is priced at 5.5 million yen (including consumption tax) in Japan. A limited “Honda ON” edition featuring a white interior will also be offered exclusively through Honda’s online sales platform.
Originally introduced in 1999 as Honda’s first mass-produced hybrid, the Insight has played a significant role in the company’s electrification journey. With this latest iteration, Honda aims to redefine the model as a modern EV, blending sustainability with performance and comfort.
