The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has commissioned eight new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations as part of its first-phase infrastructure rollout, marking a major step toward strengthening the city’s clean mobility ecosystem.

According to officials, the newly operational stations offer a combined 48 charging points, equipped to support two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and four-wheelers. The facilities include both slow and fast-charging options, with the Nerul station featuring two 30 kW CCS2 fast chargers aimed at reducing vehicle turnaround time.

All stations will operate 24/7 and are integrated with a mobile application that allows users to pre-book charging slots, view station availability, and make digital payments. The infrastructure has been developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with Kay Bee Batteries, Road Grid India, and Delta Electronics onboard as private partners. As part of the revenue-sharing model, NMMC will earn ₹4 per kWh from the charging operations.

The initiative aligns with the municipality’s broader plan to establish 143 charging points across Navi Mumbai. To ensure equal accessibility, the city has been divided into 24 one-square-kilometre grids. Officials initially planned six stations per grid, but the number has been revised to five due to space constraints.

Funding support for the project includes a ₹2 crore grant under the 15th Finance Commission, linked to urban air quality improvement. Many of the new sites have been strategically placed near high-footfall areas such as parking zones, public parks, bus stops, and community spaces. Provisions for advertising kiosks, lighting, and small refreshment points may also be added in subsequent phases, pending regulatory approvals.

The corporation stated that the expansion of EV infrastructure is central to Navi Mumbai’s commitment to promoting sustainable mobility and supporting India’s goal of achieving 30% EV penetration by 2030. With the first phase complete, additional stations are set to be rolled out in the coming months to meet rising demand from EV users.
