Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) has announced a major milestone in its long-term North American business strategy, Momentum 2030, confirming plans to introduce a new battery electric vehicle (BEV) to the U.S. and Canadian markets in partnership with Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. The upcoming BEV, based on the next-generation Nissan LEAF platform, is scheduled to arrive at dealerships in summer 2026.

This development supports Mitsubishi’s earlier commitment to launch “a new or significantly revised vehicle every year between 2026 and 2030.” The initiative is already underway with the debut of the 2025 Outlander SUV.

“The Momentum 2030 plan is not just a roadmap—it’s a rallying cry for our company, employees, dealer partners, and customers,” said Mark Chaffin, President and CEO of MMNA. “Today’s announcement reinforces our dedication to the U.S. market, to electrification, and to offering consumers a diverse lineup that includes internal combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and battery electric vehicles.”

More information about the new BEV—including its name, imagery, technical specifications, and pricing—will be revealed in future announcements.

Momentum 2030 is structured around four strategic pillars:

  • Advancing the path to electrification
  • Expanding and renewing the product lineup for the North American market
  • Modernizing the retail sales model
  • Growing Mitsubishi’s dealer network and boosting regional sales

The company’s collaboration with Alliance partner Nissan marks a significant step in its electrification efforts, positioning Mitsubishi to compete more aggressively in the evolving North American auto landscape.
