LG Electronics has been honored with the esteemed “King Sejong Award” at the 2024 Technology Patent Awards, organized by the Korean Intellectual Property Office. The award acknowledges LG’s cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) technology, which is designed to improve safety and convenience in driving by providing intuitive navigation guidance and vehicle information in real-time.

The award-winning AR technology, patented domestically and internationally in 2022, generates 3D graphics on in-vehicle displays that offer drivers a clear view of route guidance, vehicle data, and potential hazards. Integrated with sensors, GPS, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) data, the system predicts potential risks based on the vehicle’s surroundings, enhancing road safety.

A standout feature of LG’s system is its ability to adjust AR graphics in real-time, combining and modifying symbols based on current driving conditions. This dynamic display enables drivers to intuitively understand complex information such as speed, road incline, lane changes, and route recalculations.

Kim Dong-wook, head of the B2B Advanced Technology Center at LG Electronics, expressed enthusiasm about the technology’s impact, stating, “LG is excited to utilize its award-winning AR technology to create mobility solutions that elevate driver convenience and contribute to safer roads for everyone.”

LG plans to collaborate with global automakers to integrate this innovative AR technology into future mobility solutions, while also generating revenue through royalties.
