Renault Group has unveiled a unique artistic collaboration with U.S. contemporary artist Joshua Vides, transforming the Renault Twingo E-Tech Electric into a bold, sketch-inspired art piece.
The project, part of Renault’s ongoing initiative to merge automotive design with contemporary art, saw Vides given full creative freedom to reinterpret the electric city car. The transformation took place as a live performance from April 8 to 13 at the Renault Carwalk, where visitors witnessed the vehicle evolve into an immersive artwork in real time.
Known for his distinctive black-and-white visual style inspired by comic books and cartoons, Vides applied his signature technique to the Twingo, turning the three-dimensional vehicle into a two-dimensional sketch-like illusion. The result blurs the line between reality and illustration, offering a fresh perspective on automotive design.
The live sessions allowed the public to observe the creative process up close, as the car gradually transitioned from a standard production model into a striking piece of art. Renault said the initiative reflects its commitment to exploring new forms of expression and connecting its heritage with modern culture.
The completed art car is now on display at the Renault Carwalk on the Champs-Élysées until June 9 as part of the Pop Art Car exhibition. Following the exhibition, it will join Renault’s art car collection, which showcases collaborations between the brand and contemporary artists.
Arnaud Belloni, Global Chief Marketing Officer at Renault, described the project as a rare opportunity for audiences to experience art in motion. He emphasized that the transformation of the Twingo into a canvas highlights the brand’s vision of the car not just as a means of transport, but as a medium for creative expression.
This collaboration is part of Renault’s broader strategy to reimagine its iconic models through innovative partnerships. By bridging the worlds of art, design, and mobility, the company continues to position itself at the intersection of culture and technology.
The Twingo E-Tech Electric, already a symbol of urban mobility, now stands as a testament to how cars can transcend functionality and become works of art.
