Toyota Motor Corporation announced that its plans for developing and producing next-generation batteries, including performance and all-solid-state batteries, have been certified by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) under the government’s “Supply Assurance Plan for Batteries.”

The certification covers three areas: (1) production of next-generation performance batteries at Prime Planet Energy & Solutions, Inc. (PPES), (2) production at Primearth EV Energy Co., Ltd. (PEVE), and (3) R&D and production of all-solid-state batteries.

METI’s “Initiatives to Ensure a Stable Supply of Batteries,” based on the Economic Security Promotion Act, aim to bolster Japan’s battery production infrastructure, focusing on critical materials, battery cells, and manufacturing equipment. The battery industry demands large-scale investments in equipment, and government support is crucial to sustaining and advancing Japan’s manufacturing capabilities.

By driving battery innovation and production domestically, Toyota aims to enhance the industry’s development, strengthen battery production infrastructure, and improve the competitiveness of electrified vehicles, all while pursuing carbon neutrality through multiple pathways.
