In a bid to spearhead the transition towards a more sustainable, zero-emissions future, General Motors (GM) unveiled its highly anticipated 2023 Sustainability Report today. The report underscores GM’s steadfast commitment to environmental stewardship, innovation, and social responsibility as it navigates the path towards carbon neutrality.

Under the leadership of GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra, the automotive giant is harnessing its resources and expertise to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) while forging strategic partnerships to enhance supply chain sustainability. Barra emphasized, “Sustainability is not just good policy. It’s good business — good for the company, for employees, and for recruiting and retaining the best people, people who will help us achieve our vision.”

Key highlights from the report include GM’s participation in the ZEROgrid Initiative, a collaborative effort with industry leaders and the Rocky Mountain Institute aimed at driving progress towards a less carbon-intensive, more reliable, and affordable grid. Additionally, GM plans to integrate the North American Charging Standard (NACS) into future EVs, facilitating access to over 15,000 superchargers by 2024.

Prepared in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) 2021 Standards and the Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) framework, the 2023 Sustainability Report offers stakeholders and the public comprehensive insights into GM’s sustainability journey.
