In a significant alliance poised to redefine the automotive landscape in India, SAIC Motor, a global Fortune 500 entity with a vast international footprint and annual revenues nearing US $110 billion, has partnered with JSW Group, a leading Indian conglomerate generating around US $23 billion in revenues across diverse sectors.
The collaboration, sealed through the signing of the Shareholder Agreement and Share Purchase & Share Subscription agreement between SAIC’s President Wang Xiaoqiu and JSW Group’s Parth Jindal at the MG Office in London, marks a strategic endeavor to propel MG Motor’s transformation and expansion in India.
Focusing on leveraging their collective resources in automotive technology, the joint venture aims to foster strategic synergies, intending to bolster local sourcing, enhance charging infrastructure, expand production capacity, and introduce a wider spectrum of vehicles with a firm emphasis on eco-friendly mobility.
Under the agreement terms, JSW will hold a substantial 35% stake in the Indian joint venture operations. SAIC, renowned for its cutting-edge technology, remains dedicated to supporting the partnership by providing advanced products and technology to deliver innovative mobility solutions tailored for the Indian market.
President Wang Xiaoqiu emphasized, “The automotive industry thrives on collaboration and access. SAIC’s commitment to ‘win-win cooperation’ remains steadfast as we join forces to innovate, create greener mobility solutions, and expand our brand influence in India.”
Parth Jindal from JSW Group echoed this sentiment, highlighting their joint venture’s objective to transform MG Motor operations in India with a focus on futuristic, technology-driven automobile products, including intelligent connected NEVs and ICE vehicles. The partnership aims to capitalize on localized initiatives while championing the development of the EV ecosystem.
The joint venture plans to capitalize on SAIC Motor’s expertise and MG’s core principles of globalization, digitalization, rejuvenation, and a youthful mindset. It will tap into JSW Group’s extensive presence across Indian B2B and B2C sectors to strengthen local sourcing and establish a robust supply chain, laying the foundation for a sustainable automotive ecosystem centered on green mobility.
