In a significant move towards promoting sustainable urban mobility, the Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has given the green light for the operation of air-conditioned electric buses in three key cities: Saharanpur, Ayodhya, and Firozabad.
To facilitate this initiative, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) will be established. Chaired by the commissioner of the respective division under the Companies Act 2013, this SPV will be responsible for the operation, management, and maintenance of electric buses in these cities.
The SPV will have the authority to determine bus routes, establish fare structures, and ensure passenger amenities are in place. Currently, Uttar Pradesh operates a total of 740 AC electric buses through 13 SPVs in 14 cities.
Other noteworthy decisions made during the Cabinet meeting included the allocation of funds for the establishment of the second battalion of the Uttar Pradesh Special Security Force in Gorakhpur. This endeavor, estimated at Rs 431 crore, will encompass both residential and non-residential complexes, further enhancing security and safety within the state.
