Mahindra Last Mile Mobility was awarded the first Automotive PLI certificate by ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India). The certificate was presented by Dr Reji Mathai, Director of ARAI, to Suman Mishra, CEO of Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, in the presence of senior executives from ARAI.
The Automotive PLI certificate is part of the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the Automobile and Auto Component Industry in India. The scheme, launched by the Ministry of Heavy Industries, aims to boost local production of advanced automotive technology (AAT) goods and attract investments in the automotive manufacturing value chain. It has a budgetary outlay of Rs 25,938 crore.
Mahindra Last Mile Mobility’s flagship electric 3-wheeler met the criteria for the Automotive PLI certificate, demonstrating their commitment to the indigenization of advanced automotive technology products. They are the first recipient to receive this certificate from ARAI, showcasing their dedication to the ‘Make in Bharat Abhiyan’ and strengthening the domestic production ecosystem.
The formal Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for application to the Automotive PLI scheme was launched by Mahindra Last Mile Mobility on April 27, 2023. The SOP facilitated a smooth application process with necessary formats to be uploaded through the MHI portal by eligible applicants, including Champion OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and Component Champions.
This milestone achievement highlights the progress being made in the Indian automotive industry towards localized production of advanced technology products and incentivizing investments in the sector.
