Tata Motors has achieved a significant milestone by rolling out its 10 lakh (1 millionth) commercial vehicle from its Lucknow manufacturing facility, marking over 35 years of industrial presence in Uttar Pradesh. The landmark vehicle was a zero-emission electric bus, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable mobility.
The milestone event was flagged off by Yogi Adityanath in the presence of Natarajan Chandrasekaran and senior leadership from Tata Motors, along with government officials and industry representatives.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister described the achievement as a moment of pride for the state, highlighting Uttar Pradesh’s growing industrial ecosystem, skilled workforce, and ambition to become a trillion-dollar economy. He emphasized the role of companies like Tata Motors in driving employment, skill development, and sustainable economic growth.
Established in 1992, the Lucknow facility has evolved into one of Tata Motors’ key commercial vehicle manufacturing hubs. Spread across nearly 600 acres, the plant produces a wide range of trucks and buses, including electric and fuel cell vehicles, catering to both domestic and international markets. With an annual production capacity of over one lakh units, the facility reflects high standards of quality, safety, and operational efficiency.
Chairman N. Chandrasekaran noted that the milestone reflects the strength of Tata Motors’ long-standing partnership with Uttar Pradesh. He reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting the state’s growth journey while advancing a future-ready mobility ecosystem focused on sustainability and innovation.
The plant supports over 8,000 livelihoods and plays a vital role in regional economic development. It also runs skill-building initiatives such as Kaushalya, Lakshya, and Saksham, aimed at equipping local youth with industry-relevant training. Additionally, the facility promotes inclusive employment by increasing participation of women and providing opportunities for persons with disabilities.
In line with its environmental goals, the Lucknow plant operates on 100% renewable energy and is certified water-positive. It integrates advanced Industry 4.0 technologies, including automation, robotics, and AI-driven systems, to enhance efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
This milestone reinforces Tata Motors’ leadership in India’s commercial vehicle sector and its continued focus on cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable transportation solutions.
